What are some of the side effects after you quit smoking, or at least, cut down? Can you get ill? My roommate recently cut down on her cigarette intake (from a pack a day to about 2 cigarettes a day) and I heard her throwing up and coughing all night, and then at some point this morning. Is this a normal side effect? I do know she could actually just be sick, but it’s just strange that is has happened so close to the time when she decided to take a break from the smokes. Let me know if anybody had a similiar side effect, or what the side effects even are?
Depending on how long she’s been smoking yes… illness could be a very possible side effect~ nausea, vommiting, dizziness, lighthead and the "spins". Her body is going threw withdrawls from the nicotine, but like someone already mentioned thats out of her system in about 3 days… Also, is she taking the patch? When I first tried quitting, I took the patch and got very ill. Some people do, "nicotine overdose"…just because she went threw a pack a day…doesn’t nesecarily mean she actually smoked (enhaled) the whole pack of smokes. Sometimes they burn away etc… So if she’s on the patch she may need to try a lower dosage.

anxiety is a side affect and you will probally cough because depending the number of years smoked you have to clear your lungs of the goo in your lungs but it only takes 3 days for the nicotine to get out of your system the rest is a mind thing.Just need to find something to replace the habit of lifting a cigarette to your mouth, chew gum

Weight gain, short temper and craving certain foods are side effects of stopping smoking. Have never heard of anyone being sick so maybe she just is sick.

LOL side effects of quitting smoking ? sorry to laugh, i was a heavy smoker until some time ago, and this question sounds funny to me now. what i mean is this. there are only positive side effects of stopping smoking. i’m not going to list them all here now, just read allen carr’s book on the link below..

p.s.
the fact that she’s coughing a lot means one thing. her body is now getting rid of all the dirt in the lungs. coughing is the body’s natural way of doing that. think about it, anytime you cough and spit, look at what you’re spitting out and ask yourself, would you rather have coughed it up or left it in your lungs ?
please read this book – no scare tactics
